Beyond its cuisine, Carmelitas is an "Art friendly space".
The restuarant has a permanent collection, collaborates with artists and houses a very particular art gallery which specializes in video art, CARMELITAS GALLERY.
These photographs were taken from the top of Carmelitas. They show a cityscape of roofs, a panoramic view of the surrounding Raval neighbourhood that is never seen from the street. They are an interesting contrast to the view of the city seen at street level through the restaurant's huge windows.
Barcelona artist Jaume Amigó led several interventions in different locations in the restaurant using illuminated bases. These vessels are meant to guard dreams.

These photographs are an homage to the neighbourhood. They come from the FOTORAMBLAS archive, a collection of photographs taken in a photography studio on Las Ramblas. This studio documented almost 50 years of Barcelona society from the mid- '50s to 1998 For more info: www.galeríadelsangels.com/FOTORAMBLAS
Barcelona artist Jaime Pitarch used the restaurant for the site of one of his installation pieces. In this work, he left enlarged advertisements and notes throughout the restaurant, making public the intimate clutter that typically goes unnoticed in daily life.

Coinciding with his exhibition On Translation: Museum in the MACBA (Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona), the artist submitted dishes of his own design into the regular flatware of Carmelitas restaurant.
